About Me

I am an acute medicine specialist with expertise in perioperative medicine.

I studied medicine at Keele University followed by an Academic Foundation Programme post where I researched medical education. Prior to higher speciality training, I studied for a Masters in Tropical and Infectious Diseases within which I studied X-ray features of pneumonia in Malawi. I tried in acute medicine in Bristol, developing a special interest in perioperative medicine. As a clinical fellow in perioperative medicine, I studied for a postgraduate diploma and led on clinical research. My research showed the futility of cardiopulmonary rescuscitation (CPR) in patients living with moderate to severe frailty, and the benefits of medical speciality input into older patients admitted with trauma.

Having helped develop the curriculum for perioperative medicine as a special interest for acute medicine trainees, I am open to enquiries from resident doctors looking to gain experience in perioperative medicine (email: sarah.ibitoye@nbt.nhs.uk).
